What is Microneedling?

Chances are, you’ve heard about collagen and the importance of its production for healthy, smooth skin. But did you know about mircroneedling and how it can increase your skin's natural production?

What is Microneedling & What Does it Treat?

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure where small or “micro” needles are used to prick the face’s skin, generating new collagen-rich skin tissue. As a result, fine lines and uneven tone are reduced, smoothing, firming, and tightening the skin. Additionally, dark spots, scars, acne and acne scars, and large pores are treated with this process. This treatment may also be an option for those looking to promote hair growth in certain areas.

In order to speed up the healing process, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is injected into the treated tissue. The PRP is obtained by drawing a small amount of your blood, from which the plasma is separated to concentrate healing properties.

Here at Wellness Revolution, we also offer Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, a step up from traditional microneedling that is designed to address deeper concerns and advanced anti-aging concerns.

Who is a Candidate for Microneedling?

Anyone in good health is a fit for microneedling, though talk to your dermatologist or administering doctor/practitioner first if you use certain acne medications for severe acne, have a skin condition such as psoriasis or eczema, or have undergone radiation therapy recently. It is better to disclose this information early on.

What to Expect During & After

Each session is about 45 minutes on average; the inclusion of PRP may result in a longer appointment. As with other cosmetic procedures, multiple sessions may grant the best results, all depending on personal skin goals. Initial results should be noticeable within a couple of weeks.

As with any procedure, some redness and irritation may be expected but should subside within a few hours or days. Since this procedure causes skin to be sensitive and “open”, it is best to avoid lots of sun exposure, makeup and certain skincare products until fully healed. Staying hydrated is vital for optimal healing.

If you have any questions or concerns about microneedling and are interested in this skin treatment, please call us to schedule a consultation and to speak with Stephanie directly!
