Body Sculpting 101

Nearly everyone has dealt with hard-to-lose fat; no matter what you try, it seems to want to stick around. And why wouldn’t it? You’re gorgeous! But unwanted fat can not only affect your confidence and self-esteem but may also invite health issues.

Among eating healthy and regular exercise, there is another - easier - way to remove pesky fat deposits: body sculpting.

What is Body Sculpting?

Body sculpting, also referred to as body contouring, is a medical procedure with the goal of reshaping a focused area of the body. While the procedure doesn’t directly help with weight loss, it instead eliminates excess fat, cellulite, and the presence of extra skin, firming and contouring the area. This is a pain-free way to target troublesome areas of the body.

What Does Body Sculpting Treat?

Major weight loss and natural aging can leave behind saggy or excess skin that can be remedied with body contouring. The belly area is the most popular area to treat with body sculpting. However, the neck, chin, thighs, back, arms, and buttocks may also be focal points, depending on the patient’s wants and needs.

How Does Body Sculpting Work?

A body shaper/applicator is applied onto your skin with ultrasound gel. The device heats the skin via radio frequency, denaturing fat cells and making them shrink. Again, it’s vital to note that this procedure is pain-free! Some might even say the heat reminds them of a massage.

The procedure can take between 30 to 45 minutes, and multiple sessions may be necessary depending on the target area and amount of fat. It’s recommended to start with four to six treatments, though additional appointments can help reach desired results.

While the results of body sculpting can last a while, it’s fundamental that the patient does their part in taking care of their body and making efforts to keep the weight off. Touch-ups once a year are recommended - for example, right before swimsuit season may be ideal.
